MEMBERS Development Company (MDC) currently touts more than 60 owners, which represent 12% of total CU membership, and 16% of all CU assets.
Now that MDC has reached maturity, the company operates independently from CUNA Mutual Group, although three members of CMG's senior executive team still serve on MDC's Board. This arrangement provides the best of both worlds - the ability to function solely for the benefit of credit unions and their members while being able to leverage CMG's strength and presence in the marketplace.
MDC's activities are directed by an eleven member board, eight of whom are elected by its credit union/CUSO/Corporate/League owners. By design, CUNA Mutual can hold no more than a 49% stake in the organization.
